To what depths would you go for the perfect engagement photo to impress your social media friends?
A man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana found out just how deep after he drowned while proposing to his girlfriend underwater while vacationing in Tanzania.
The couple was staying at The Manta Resort’s underwater cabin, which is submerged 32ft and costs $1,700 per night. According to the resort’s website, the resort “offers privacy, serenity & close encounters with nature & people on Africa’s finest island sanctuary.”
The resort describes the underwater cabin which “lies approximately 250m from the shore, in the crystal clear waters of our marine conservation area,” and features “a soft kingsize bed surrounded by panes of glass affording almost 360 degrees” of the ocean reef.
Steven Weber and his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, booked a four night stay for an underwater cabin at the Manta Resort. It was on the third day of their stay when Weber, plunged into the water to make his proposal.
The note read:
“I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But… everything I love about you, I love more every day!”
Weber then turns over the sheet of paper to reveal the proposal before pulling an engagement ring from his shorts and swimming out of view.

The CEO of the resort, Matthew Saus, said they responded to a “problem in the water” but when they arrived “absolutely nothing could be done,” according to NBC.
Antoine confirmed the death of Weber in a Facebook post, saying he, “never emerged from those depths.”
According to Antoine’s Facebook post, during their trip to the exotic island resort Weber said a few prophetic things:
“Just a couple days before you died, you said to me, “I’ve seen a few cancer patients on this trip, and it dawned on me that this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that people want to experience before they die. And here we are in the prime of our lives doing this. We are so blessed.”
Antoine posted the photos and video of the underwater wedding proposal on Facebook Friday:
where it has since gone viral, with over 1.6 million views:
