WHITSETT, N.C. — The Guilford County Sheriff’s office discovered nearly 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products stowed in a stolen 53-foot Hyundai truck trailer on Wednesday.

Sheriff Danny Rodgers announced they’d deployed their Specialized Enforcement Unit to lead an investigation into the driver of the truck who was traveling on Interstate 40 in Whitsett, North Carolina.

Rodgers said the driver was in violation of NC Motor Vehicle law, so deputies tailed the truck to a warehouse not far from the interstate where they discovered that the trailer was stolen and being used to transport nearly 18,000 pounds of toilet paper and paper towels.

It’s unknown at this time whether or not the driver knew he was hauling a stolen trailer and investigators are still deciding whether or not to file charges.

The stolen load was transferred from the stolen trailer to another so it could continue on to its final destination.

This investigation is on-going and no arrests have been made at this time.
